Overview
I was approached in 2018 to re-configure the rear half of a quietly stylish house in Bearsden, connect it more directly with its garden below and fully exploit the expansive views of the Kilpatrick Hills to the north west.
With the kitchen as a focus at the centre of the action, spaces have been dramatically reworked
to be flooded with ever-changing natural light and to enjoy more direct relationships (especially with a new garden terrace and the hills beyond).
”Gary’s collaborative approach to designing an extension to our home was unique from the start. He took time to observe and understand how we function as a family in order to develop a range of ideas and options for our home. Gary’s excitement, enthusiasm and positivity for the project separated him from all others.
Particular requirements for this two storey project were to create a kitchen and dining space with additional bedroom, public room and workshop. We hoped to frame the stunning views of the Campsie Fells, create inlets for natural light to flood the rear of the property and create a clear link with the garden. Gary created a design which completely fitted our needs and aspirations. His innovative way of thinking created practical and stylish new spaces that we never would have imagined to be possible.
This was a big project and Gary’s commitment was unwavering. From liaising with planners and structural engineers, to builders and kitchen designers, he supported us throughout with his down to earth style, accessibility and positive approach. His dedication to the whole project from initial design right through to completion of the build shone through. We love our new home and are incredibly grateful to him.
